ESSENTIAL FOCUS:

Exit restrictions:

• restrictions in general (exit visa required, bureaucratic curtailment of freedom to leave one's own country) - example : Iraq, North Korea
• U.S.A. : restrictions imposed on travel to some "inconvenient" countries, for instance Cuba and Libya
• in some states there may be alleged restrictions imposed on travel to a particular state, e.g. Libya, Syria

Difficulty in obtaining a passport or other travel documents:

• financial difficulty
• collapsed state administration, e.g. Somalia, Afghanistan
• various red-tape obstacles

Visa duty:

• Documentation of visa & travel conditions from every country to every other country
• duty to apply for a visa or other permit before the entry

Unrecognized states and dependent territories:

• recognition of passports and travel documents issued by authorities of states that have not been recognized according to international law
• the right of dependent countries and territories (as well as all occupied or unrecognized ones) to their own visa policies

Special affairs:

• territorial waters / seaside areas
• emergency cases, e.g. shipwrecks
• airport borders
